Submissions
Submission Preparation Checklist
All submissions must meet the following requirements.
- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
- The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
- The submission file is in OpenOffice or Microsoft Word.
Short communications
Short communication: they aim to inform about advances, new ideas or recent discoveries made by recognized authors in their respective fields. They consist of concise and short manuscripts. They are usually sent by invitation. Short communications are not intended to cover in detail a subject or background information; rather they provide key points for the reader. The reported work must be innovative and significant, advancing the state of the art. It also does not aim to publish preliminary results of a study. There is a limitation in the submitted manuscripts of 1500 words and may include figures or tables. It must include at least 5-10 references. Short communications are passed through the peer review process.
Letters to the Editor
Topics of current interest, brief discussions, comments and research notes on an article of previously published interest, brief discussions, research notes and comments on a previously published research article may be sent for publication as Letters to the Editor, to which they will be given a high publication priority and will guarantee a quick publication. They must be punctual and brief, they must not contain more than 1000 words. They will not be submitted to a peer review of the content, but the Director or a member of the Editorial Committee will carry out the evaluation prior to its publication. The objective of this section is to enhance the written scientific debate.
Original research
Original articles of pure research in a subject related to Legal Medicine or Forensic Sciences.
Case reports
They provide information on a case or several cases that, due to their result, represent a contribution to the area of Forensic Sciences or Legal Medicine, may include the use of innovative technologies and / or procedures, or a unique clinical meaning in the field. They must have a concise history of literature. The manuscripts have a limit of 3000 words (if it includes literature review), otherwise no more than 1500 words and a maximum of 50 references.
Literature review
Constituted by scientific articles based on bibliographic reviews of topics related to Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences.

The intellectual property of accepted works belongs to their authors, however access to them is totally open and free, so they can be reproduced totally or partially with the only limitation of recognizing the authorship and the source of publication (Revista Medicina Legal de Costa Rica), as long as said exploitation does not have commercial character.
